Skills Insight Jobs and Skills Council purpose and impact on privacy
Skills Insight Jobs and Skills Council is contracted by the Federal Government to provide industry with a stronger, more strategic voice in Australia’s VET sector. Skills Insight is asked to deliver outcomes that support a responsive VET system and a skilled and resilient national workforce, based on evidence of industry need and extensive public consultation.
As a result, much of the information collected will be used to demonstrate widespread support and to identify the issues raised and how those issues have been addressed. It is a requirement of the Federal Government that information is collected and made available to provide this evidence.
Skills Insight will usually not request or accept confidential information or anonymous contributions as a result of this requirement. There may be exceptions related to business operations requiring confidentiality or when exceptional circumstances may apply.
In reading this policy, it is important to understand that the nature of Skills Insight means that identifiable information may be reported to meet the requirements of the program.
Customer Relationship Management database
Skills Insight operates a Microsoft Dynamics Customer Relationship Management database (CRMdb) and the database is stored on Microsoft’s Azure server and accessed online by Skills Insight approved personnel, using unique logins. There is no public access to the CRMdb.
If you have had contact with Skills Insight through the formal and informal network processes, or have taken part in a project, or signed on to the website, or had previous engagement with the former Skills Services Organisation (SSO), Skills Impact, it is highly likely that your name is recorded in the CRMdb. “Full name” is the only mandatory data field. Other information that may be collected if needed is as follows:
We do not ask for, nor store, other personal information or financial data. We do not store website logins or passwords.
Access to the database is only provided to Skills Insight staff and approved contractors, each provided with their applicable level of access.
Transfer of data from Skills Impact to Skills Insight
The engagement data from Skills Impact, the former SSO responsible for agribusiness and fibre industries, has been transferred to Skills Insight, the current Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) responsible for agribusiness, fibre and furnishings industries.
Ownership of personal data
Skills Insight is contracted by the Commonwealth Government and all information we collect and create becomes the property of the Commonwealth Government, in the event that Skills Insight is replaced by a new organisation.
Website
There are many aspects of the Skills Insight website which can be viewed without providing personal information. However, for access to some Skills Insight stakeholder support features you may be required to submit personally identifiable information. This may include, but not limited to, your first name, last name, organisation, email address and phone number. This information will be recorded in our CRMdb, along with information about any enquiries, requests or feedback that you have submitted to us. Some of your browsing history on the Skills Insight website will be available to us to determine your interests. This will assist us in engaging you with information that is catered to your interests and preferences. Skills Insight never stores any information in your computer’s local Flash drive.

Feedback Hub
The Feedback Hub aims to make it easier for you to provide feedback on draft documents and to facilitate greater transparency around stakeholder feedback. To access the Feedback Hub, you will be required to sign up to our website with your full name, organisation and email address. You may use a pseudonym or a nickname instead of your full name.
Any comments or feedback you make on draft documents will remain anonymous on the website and to other users. Each user will be assigned a unique ID number. Only Skills Insight staff and training package contractors working directly on the project will be able to identify users against their unique IDs. This is so we can ensure the authenticity of comments and feedback and to follow-up with further engagement, where required. A summary of all feedback and comments will be published at various stages of the project, to demonstrate feedback received and the responses taken. Your name will not be published against the comments, instead they will be documented against your state and organisation type (i.e. industry business, industry association, state government department, registered training organisation).
The Feedback Hub is moderated to keep the discussion flowing and to remove any offensive or inappropriate material. For further details, please read Skills Insight’s Moderation Policy.
Newsletter subscription
You will only be subscribed to our newsletters if you opt-in, either by filling out one of our subscription forms or requesting a Skills Insight staff member to do so on your behalf. Existing subscribers to the Skills Impact newsletters were transferred, with the option to update their current subscription preferences or to unsubscribe from any newsletter.
Clicking on a link in our newsletters may cause you to be personally identified on our website so that some part of your browsing history is available to Skills Insight internal staff. This is so we can more effectively engage with you and improve our website. Some information is additionally collected about when/if the email was opened, and which links were clicked. This information is used to assess the engagement of our newsletters. If you do not wish for this tracking to occur, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each newsletter or use private browsing mode in your browser to avoid tracking.
Contact form
If you submit an enquiry, feedback or complaint through our website’s contact form you will be required to provide your name, organisation, email address and phone number. This information will be stored in our CRMdb and will be accessible by Skills Insight staff only. There is the option to subscribe to our newsletter on the contact form.
Event registration
Skills Insight uses its CRMdb to document the attendance of stakeholders for our events. Skills Insight also uses Zoom for online meetings and video calls. The information obtained from these applications is stored in our CRMdb, accessible by Skills Insight staff only.

Skills Insight takes reasonable approaches so that these organisations are bound by confidentiality and privacy obligations in relation to the protection of your personal information.
As a commonwealth department funded entity, we are required, when asked, to share any information collected by us to the department for the purposes of furthering the Jobs and Skills Council Program.
Use of your personal information
We will only use the personal information you have chosen to provide us for the purpose for which you provided it, (i.e. to ensure the authenticity of comments and feedback on draft documents and to follow-up with further engagement where required, or to follow-up on enquiries and complaints). We will not use your personal information for any other purpose without your consent. Personal information includes your contact details and a record of your interaction with us. If you provide feedback on a training package project, your name will be listed as part of the final submission as somebody who contributed to the project and provided feedback, but your name will not be published against your comments.
From time to time, we may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy notice. If our information practices change at some time in the future, we will use for these new purposes only, data collected from the time of the policy change forward and will adhere to our updated practices.
How we keep personal information accurate and up-to-date
Skills Insight endeavours to maintain the accuracy and currency of any personal information it holds. We encourage you to contact us to update any of your personal information we hold. Personal information includes your contact details and a record of your interaction with us.
