NAIDOC Week is celebrated across Australia in the first week of July each year, recognising and honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories, and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
This year’s NAIDOC Week runs from 6 to 13 July and marks the 50th anniversary of the event. The 2025 theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, celebrates achievements of the past and the bright future ahead.
This year Skills Insight is particularly proud to highlight and celebrate three examples of strength, vision and legacy:
- Indigenous Ranger programs draw on thousands of years of knowledge and cultural practices for respecting Country, continuing vital work to protect and manage land and sea Country across Australia.
- The first graduates from the Certificate III On Country Management at South Regional TAFE Western Australia. A qualification that was revised as part of the Respect for Country Job Skills Project.
- Work to progress the development of Community-based Aquaculture Training Tools.
You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.
