The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is in the process of establishing a maintenance strategy for the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA) to facilitate publication of regular, timely updates.

Public consultation was undertaken from 11 March to 4 April 2025 to inform how often the OSCA will be updated and how submissions are prioritised.

Skills Insight made a submission, in which we emphasised the importance of aligning the OSCA with other national frameworks that inform government data use, and identified workplace safety as a key factor in prioritising future updates. The submission also reaffirmed our commitment to engaging with the ABS at every stage.

A consultation summary is now available through the ABS Consultation Hub outlining what was asked, responses received and the planned approach moving forward.

The OSCA maintenance strategy will be published in July 2025.
