Skills Insight has responded to the discussion paper on a Revised Methodology for the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List. Our submission, informed by engagement and research, highlights concerns that the proposed methodology could systematically disadvantage essential industries and the communities they support.

Notably, sixteen additional occupations within Skills Insight’s coverage risk exclusion from the Priority List if the Strategic Review’s recommendations proceed. We have put forward six key recommendations that advocate for a revised methodology aligning apprenticeship incentives with priorities such as food security, environmental sustainability, regional economic resilience, sovereign capability, advanced manufacturing, and social equity.

We encourage stakeholders to review our submission and join us in advocating for an apprenticeship system that truly supports the critical skills and industries vital to Australia’s future.
