AI, digital and workforce futures – National AI Skills Report

Australia’s shift toward an AI driven economy is reshaping jobs, industries and the skills people need to thrive at work. Future Skills Organisation(FSO) is leading the contribution to a twice yearly National AI Skills Report, with input from all Jobs and Skills Councils, including Skills Insight. This work forms part of the Australian Government’s National AI Plan, announced by the Hon Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and Science, and Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, as a plan to “empower all Australians” by growing an AI enabled economy that is safe, inclusive and productive. It will help government, industry and training systems understand how AI is changing workplaces, where new skills are emerging, and what kinds of support are needed to keep Australia competitive, inclusive and future ready.

The Report will examine how AI is being used across different sectors, the capabilities workers need to use it safely and effectively, the skills required to support data and digital infrastructure, and the impacts of AI adoption on priority cohorts such as women and First Nations people. It will also identify gaps and opportunities in current training, and outline practical next steps and measures that can guide future policy and investment.

Share your AI workplace story by 28 February

Skills Insight is gathering real examples of how AI is being used in the industries we work with, so that the voices and experiences of employers, workers and communities inform this national work from the outset. We are particularly interested in short stories that show what prompted the use of AI, how it was used, what changed as a result, what skills were needed or developed, and what support would help you use AI more effectively.

This is a space to share your experience in your own words, and to help shape a deeper, ongoing exploration of AI related disruption and opportunity across our sectors. Stories collected here will be summarised by Skills Insight and provided to FSO for potential inclusion in the National AI Skills Report, and may also inform our future workforce planning and reporting.
