Veterinary nursing practices are used to provide integral animal care and treatment across different species and contexts, requiring a broad range of skills.
As part of a new project, Skills Insight will consult with the veterinary sector to understand their diverse workforce needs and how they can be better supported by nationally endorsed qualifications and other training package products.
By taking a holistic view of veterinary nursing skills and how they are described, this project aims to support career pathways and contribute to industry strategies to address retention rates and skills shortages for this workforce.
Get involved
The first step in the project will involve a skills analysis.
Veterinary nurses, veterinarians, employers, the union, associations, registered training organisations and other industry stakeholders will be invited to participate in a review of the skills required for veterinary nursing across different environments and species, so they can be accurately reflected in the national qualifications.
The skills review is underway and will continue until June, with further details to be shared in an upcoming edition of this newsletter.
