Today (Tuesday 20 August) is National Forestry Day, a day to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of Australia’s forest products sector.
In honour of the occasion, we are sharing stories about some of our recent engagements with stakeholders.
We are committed to understanding and supporting the skills and training needs of the forest and timber industries because we recognise that the work you do is essential to the everyday lives of us all.
Making Connections at ATTA
Skills Insight and ForestWorks recently had the opportunity to participate in the Australian Timber Trainer’s Association (ATTA) Conference in Launceston.
One of our industry engagement managers, Diana McNaughton, gave a presentation about Skills Insight as a Jobs and Skills Council, the work we’re currently doing and the importance of training providers. This was followed by a workshopping session on how we can build a more sustainable RTO workforce.
Later in the day, Tamara Speldewinde (Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Forestry, Wood Processing, and Pulp and Paper) and Georgiana Daian (Head of Skills Standards Development) of ForestWorks presented about ForestWork’s role as a collaborative partner of Skills Insight and the stakeholder networks they help manage.
Their presentation finished with an overview of projects ForestWorks is helping manage for Skills Insight, including continued work to support skills and training in tree felling.
A Drone’s Eye View
The team also attended some field trips as part of the conference, including a demonstration of how drones are used to measure trees, monitor cultural heritage, undertake environmental surveillance, manage fires, and more.
Forest Management and Harvesting Site Visits
While in Tasmania, the team also organised site visits to three different coupes thanks to Timberlands Pacific and Reliance.
