The new Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA) is launching on Friday 6 December 2024.

OSCA replaces the joint Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) established in 2006.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and Statistics New Zealand announced that they would maintain comparability as each country introduced their own tailored occupational statistical classifications. This will help address major differences in Australia and New Zealand’s respective labour markets.

The Statistics New Zealand classification, the National Occupation List (NOL), has been released on their website.

The launch of OSCA follows the ABS’s full review of the classification system, to which Skills Insight contributed

The ABS will continue to engage and consult on OSCA during 2025 and is developing a plan for ongoing feedback.
