Highlighting the skills needed to sustain Australia’s food security and essential industries
Skills Insight today released its Workforce Plan 2026–2027, launched by the Hon Andrew Giles MP, Minister for Skills and Training, at an industry event at Melbourne Polytechnic.
The Workforce Plan highlights the opportunities ahead to build a stronger, more sustainable workforce across the industries we support. Drawing on extensive industry consultation and workforce analysis, it identifies four shared priorities and provides a framework for collaboration between industry, governments, unions and training providers to ensure these essential industries have the people and skills needed to thrive into the future.
While these industries are critical to Australia’s food security, economic resilience and regional communities, many continue to face persistent workforce shortages. The Workforce Plan outlines the common drivers behind these challenges and highlights where targeted action can have the greatest impact, particularly in regional, rural and remote Australia.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Giles recognised the contribution the industries we support make to Australia’s economic resilience and national priorities.
