Skilled sewing machinists play a vital role across Australia’s furnishing, textile manufacturing and automotive industries. Demand for these skills continues to exceed supply, highlighting the need for training pathways that support entry into work while also enabling progression into relevant qualifications.
This project will examine how the Industrial Sewing Skill Set is currently delivered and used, with a focus on understanding barriers faced by learners, training providers and industry. Through consultation and research, it will develop a nationally scalable training model to support more consistent, workplace‑aligned delivery and strengthen the skill set’s role as a pathway to work and further training.
